RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course Syllabus
The Intermediate Powerboat syllabus aims to provide a level of training to suit those who use powerboats more frequently, and in more advanced conditions. The two-day course involves a short coastal passage, and covers practical use of daytime pilotage and passage planning skills, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques on coastal waters.
The Intermediate Powerboat Course is a progression from the National Powerboat Level 2 Course, and aims to teach powerboating up to the standard required to plan a passage, and complete a day cruise on coastal waters during daylight hours.
Subjects Covered:
• Pilotage
• Navigation
• Fuel and engine checks
• Effect of waves and rougher conditions
• Power trim and trim tabs
• Berthing in different situations
• Use of GPS in high-speed navigation and pilotage by day
Pre Requisites:
Level 2 National Powerboat Certificate
Day Skipper Theory (Not Compulsory)
VHF (Not Compulsory)
1st Aid Certificate (Not Compulsory)
Duration: 2 days (09.30am – Late Afternoon)
Minimum age: 16
Equipment Needed: Wellingtons/Old Trainers, Hat & Gloves, Waterproofs. We provide life jackets and can provide lightweight waterproofs if required.
